Rollover protection

Hi. New to the Forum. I'm looking at a 2001 BMW Z3 2.5 roadster and would like to, on occasion, take it to a SCCA Tire Rack Track night or Jack Track event. Given restrictions, does anyone know if the rollover hoops/roll bars in the 2001 Z3 are considered factory installed rollover protection? SCCA rules dictate functional roll hoops or roll bars before I could get on track. I've looked online for a Z3 owner's manual, but can't find the answer in them.

Welcome. Both z3&z4 were built with roll hoops from the factory for roll over protection so yes to that. Though check for run group limitations on event by event basis. I’ve seen certain clubs in time trials not allow stock roll hoops as sufficient roll over protection. Some clubs/tracks/hosts will keep verts in novice in otd/hpde with just stock roll hoops. Also if you plan on pushing the car search for beefing up the rear sub frame for the Z3. Quick browser search you’ll see.

A couple of BMWCCA events I've been interested in doing don't allow convertibles at all, regardless of rollover protection. To be honest, it kind of pisses me off - give me a waiver to sign and stop babysitting me, please. I really don't even want to drive competitively – I just want to go out and drive my car fast and have some fun without getting arrested, lol.
