Motor Mounts cracked in half..
Thought I'd share, I have a 08' Coupe after driving around last night hit a pothole, nothing to major ( no wheel damage) the car felt weird.
This morning car had a hard start and vibration at low RPM, drove the car to BMW and discovered the motor mount cracked in half, engine was resting on the front sway bar. Car was not drivable so reluctantly I left the car there for repair, got a quote of $614 to replace..Fair price?? I was told they where not covered under my ext-warrenty..(figures)

Do some searches - BMW is aware of this issue. It's the Motor Mount bolts not the mount itself...

It spilt right in half, if BMW is aware why isn't this covered under the warranty?..

Many of us have upgraded to aftermarket mounts like the VT mounts, perhaps you can take this opportunity to do the same?
As for the cost, I haven't been quoted by a dealer for a stock mount replacement job, but that quote you gave seems high considering I am paying less then that for all in cost of installing vt mounts thrum my Indy.

Are you talking about the supporting bracket (arm) between the block and motor mount,
Or the motor mount itself?

Was that to replace both, or just the one that broke?
Have it towed home, get some Vibra-Technics mounts, and replace them yourself. Even with the towing, you'll still come out ahead, and you'll have better mounts.

I believe its the motor mounts them self...
Good question I was thinking that lastnite, if its just to replace one or both.. The cars there, I'm going to let them do it, and eventually I'll go back and replace them myself, along with transmission mounts. Virba-Tech would be the best mount to go with? where can I get them? I hate paying for this but I'd like to build a relationship with the local BMW dealer since the car is still under warranty incase something big breaks.. Garage seems so empty, Its only been 2 days and I miss my car..

I see you are in NJ as well. I can name at least 5 independent shops which would gladly work with you and fix your car for a fair price. Good luck

Schmoupe: I think we met up at Ridgewood C&C a couple months ago..
As for the dealership..whatever..Its more of a hassle to tow the car back home and work on it..just don't have the time.. StickMon: thanks I'm gonna look into it..i'll put it on my winter time things to do list..

OP - I think I met with you at that C&C, i was with schmoupe.
and everyone here is right. I don't want to tell you what to do, but I bet Northeast Motorsports is in your backyard. The place is great, they build racecars and only work on BMWs. Mike is the owner. You could have it there easily, and they can do the same thing to yours that mine is getting done. Just have the mounts sent direct to them. Why do the job twice? And you could get those RE tranny mounts done at same time too. Either way, I found it better to build a relationship with an Indy after years as a dedicated dealership customer. why wait to start...

Schmoupe: hope all is well...I keep thinking about that convo we had about "changing the amp to get better sound" or re-code something..
I am a DIYer and it kills me to pay for this, work is crazy and its just easier right now..also after looking at mounts, I don't think thats what broke..I would have taken a pic if my phone hadn't died..so metal bracket was split in half, maybe that the bracket for the mount? no idea.. When I get the car back I am going to take a look and see what they did..

I am down to loan my equipment to somebody who is willing to do the upfront research around coding this year. I just don't have disposable time to do research. But if you or somebody else can figure it out, I will be more than willing to come with the cables.

Im in if there is ever a Z4M DIY meet. I've got Vibra Moount, catless headers, Evo SSK, and engine bolts lying around, because I still haven't resolve the noise coming from my coilover after taken to 2 dealers. Dealership not always the best resources, anyone can point to an indy with good knowledge of aftermarket suspension setup. So much things on the list...
