Guage placement
Now I have the dash off - it was to see if I can mount a boost gauge
The pods are not available for the Z - even the vent pods and the dash mounts look add-on Speedhut will make a gauge all custom - dial, bezel, font, light and even a logo 2 1/16" I will try and show the one I was thinking of. So if I put it where the black cap is -- same size - same view through steering wheel from my sight line where the full dash picture is. I never would stare at a boost gauge like you would look at a tach so I would glance once and a while - so

Nice placement. But don't you have any hesitations in drilling into that beautiful carbon leather?
You could go with the ashtray placement. Not as ergonomic to look at, but no irreversible damage to the interior |

I get your point - however - - can't see it in the ashtray without a very expensive pod/custom mount to angle it towards the driver and you still have to turn and look down. I will cut the CF in a star shape - peel it back and drill the hole behind it and tuck it in and could replace it. However I don't intend to sell the car in the near future - I just put and additional 7 grand into it for the supercharger so a hole in the carbon fibre fake leather doesn't ruin my day -- as long as when done the install looks like it was done in Spartanburg

Can you get that boost pressure gauge also in 15psi or even 10psi for better scale readability?
I don't think you'll ever go over 10psi I'm still looking for a nice small -30Hg+15psi gauge, possibly in 40mm (1,5") |

If you prefer to cut into an aluminum trim I can swap mine for your carbon leather
Maybe you can put it in the center vent, that part cost way less than the CF leather trim... Alt of E46 M3 guys have put their gauges there. |

the trim is vinyl made to look like carbon fiber, stitched to look like leather
anyway, good place for the gauge. I'd do the same, but can't ruin my $800 piano black dash

I think a AFR gauge is more important to monitor, you can always get a boost gauge with a memory and install it down low. What if you put the gauge on the A pillar?

Here's where mine is:
gauge2 by M detaR, on Flickr It's attached by a small metal L bracket that is double sided taped to the bottom of the silver gauge bezel. It displays AFR or boost with max recall (touch screen to switch between the two). I just keep it on AFR and check my max boost every once in a while.

even to 10psi I see:
http://www.speedhut.com/gauge/GR-BOO...8w--warning%29 But too large for me I think (i want it in the ashtray) I also thought about something like this in the ashtray or maybe a vent: http://www.ebay.com/itm/200469434194 But that's not as cool as a real dial imho That plx gauge may be a nice option. I know these guys do a small 1,5" dial in stainless http://www.mcdanielcontrols.com/index.htm but that's all analog, so a boost line to the dial. Maybe nice to fit in the ashtray, like a little jewel Last edited by GuidoK; 01-21-2013 at 02:02 PM.. |

Looks good - not much for fabrication - I have no problem with taking apart and adding on and fitting but don't have the skills or the equipment to "make" anything out of nothing
