3" may be better than 2 but not if the extra width requires more bends. Suffice to say any ducting is better than none so I would go as big as you can that will fit without having to run extra length or bends.

Another thing to keep in mind is plastic flanges may flex when you tighten the clamp around the hose so be sure to pick hardware that's rigid. I went plastic first time but it was a major PITA to secure the hoses so I later swapped for metal ones.
