The article lays out the pros & cons of each. Up to the reader to decide which fits their own personal use case.
One thing I wouldn't do in your shoes is "upgrade" the current turd. That's just throwing good money after bad at this point IMHO. If you want to go Windows and do it on the cheap, lots of options out there for a new rig.
