Yeah, I can't disagree about the looks, but they are properly located to be functional.
I effected the same sort of result on a race car I own by raising the back of the bonnet, but that only works if you aren't running a full windshield - try spacing up the rear of the BMW coupe bonnet and I think you'd find that air flows in from the high pressure area at the base of the windshield. Whether that would do any good depends on whether there are other exits for the ir that comes in, but either way, I can't see it as being better than the vents further forward.
I don't know what the rules of the tracks you guys run at might be, but one possible solution without butchering a nice and rare alloy bonnet, would be a fibreglass replica bonnet with vents cast in.
