SCCA Autocrossers! Rule change to allow Z4M in a Touring Class made it through SEB!

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!

This year, I made a request to the Solo Events Board to allow Z4Ms in a Touring Class, specifically STU (you may recall they are currently allowed in either BS or BSP, but NOT in any touring class). I received an email from SCCA stating the request has been reviewed by the SEB and will be appearing in Fastrack News for member comment. Please keep an eye out for this proposal and provide your feedback in support!

My request:
Under the current rule set, the 2006-2008 BMW Z4M coupe and roadster do not have an eligible touring class. One of these vehicles modified outside of the Street Class restrictions moves directly to Street Prepared, bypassing Street Touring. This vehicle's predecessor, specifically the 2001-2002 Z3M coupe and roadster is allowed in a Street Touring Class (STR) despite having the same engine and lower vehicle weight. In addition, the 2000-2005 BMW E46 M3 (which shares several identical drivetrain and suspension components as the Z4M) and the Nissan 370z (which has nearly identical horsepower, torque, and curb weight but has a faster 0-60 time) is allowed in Street Touring under STU. It is recognized that the Z4M does have improved suspension and a more aggressive stock differential that the Z3M and would be over classed in STR. Given the numerous similarities to the E46 M3 and 370z, please consider the BMW Z4M for inclusion in Street Touring under an STU index.
