Seriously, though. My previous owner spilled "brown liquid" into the seat memory buttons and the button on the end of the turn signal stalk. Flushed with lots of alcohol, several times, to get them freed up.
Alcohol is a poor solvent for such goo, and you don't want to use water, so it takes several applications.
My passenger spilled orange soda right on top of those switches while I was on a trip. BMW assist and I had over a dozen conversations in 90 mins. I heated 6oz of (distilled) water to about 140° and poured it in 3 batches right onto the switches. Problem solved. I only recommend this technique in the desert though...the humidity was 7% at the time of this incident and everything had dried out within an hour's time.
