Removal of stock air filter and intake manifold:

I will not say which tools you should use, just prepare your self to have everything around you. Excuse me as I may not have gone in a specific order, but it did the job for me.

Simply lift the radiator to expansion tank return line from the air filter box.

All around.

Lift up the lower plastic holder of the clamps upwards. I think they are total of 3.

The clamps should be free now to pull away from the cover.

Loose the bolt holding the elbow to the air filter box.

You may continue to loose it by your hand.

Loose the torx bolts holding your MAF sensor. Some models need a security torx as I heard but mine didn't.

Other bolt also.

Open the clip holding the coolant return line.

Size: 60.3 KB

Lift the hose.

Name: DSC_0612.jpg
Views: 1922
Size: 91.7 KB

Pull the MAF sensor carefully. It might be stuck little as in my case.

Name: DSC_0613.jpg
Views: 1908
Size: 41.6 KB

Handle the MAF sensor carefully.

Name: DSC_0615.jpg
Views: 1876
Size: 45.8 KB

Do not damage it, it's an expensive part I heard.

Size: 84.2 KB

You may put the bolts back to avoid losing them.

Name: DSC_0617.jpg
Views: 1891
Size: 30.8 KB

Make sure your clamps are set back.

Name: DSC_0618.jpg
Views: 1867

Wiggle the air filter cover.

Your orange OEM filter.

After removing the filter.

Push these hard holders into the arrow direction. One of mine were broken.

Once air box filter is removed.

Size: 58.8 KB

Now loose the other side of the elbow bolt.

Name: DSC_0626.jpg
Views: 1874
Size: 86.0 KB

Use some thin hard plastic and insert it between the plastic ring and manifold.

If you still can't remove it, then it's better to remove the clamp at all like I did.

Name: DSC_0629.jpg
Views: 1948
Size: 114.4 KB

After you loose the elbow.

Name: DSC_0630.jpg
Views: 1905
Size: 51.0 KB

There is one hose going into the elbow.

Name: DSC_0631.jpg
Views: 1913
Size: 81.4 KB

Press the sides to remove it.

Name: DSC_0632.jpg
Views: 1880
Size: 32.6 KB

Removed.

Name: DSC_0633.jpg
Views: 1919
Size: 54.6 KB

After you remove the elbow you can look into your manifold.

Name: DSC_0634.jpg
Views: 1893
Size: 62.4 KB

Found little oil in there, but I guess it's normal.

Name: DSC_0636.jpg
Views: 1907
Size: 88.2 KB

Loose the chrome bolt holding the oil dipstick pipe.

Name: DSC_0635.jpg
Views: 1877
Size: 74.7 KB

There is one air valve sitting on the edge of your intake manifold.

Name: DSC_0637.jpg
Views: 1893
Size: 53.4 KB

Lift it from bottom. You could use something to hammer it up if it's stuck.

Name: DSC_0638.jpg
Views: 1912
Size: 43.3 KB

Air valve removed.

Name: DSC_0640.jpg
Views: 1864
Size: 31.1 KB

Now go to the back of your intake manifold and lift the hose up.

Name: DSC_0641.jpg
Views: 1893
Size: 42.5 KB

Hose is free.

Name: DSC_0642.jpg
Views: 1910
Size: 110.6 KB

Open the clip holding the electrical wires to your oil dipstick.

Name: DSC_0643.jpg
Views: 1866
Size: 43.9 KB

Electrical wires free.

Name: DSC_0644.jpg
Views: 1940
Size: 96.7 KB

Loosen the two bolts holding your intake manifold to the bracket.

Name: DSC_0646.jpg
Views: 1876
Size: 34.8 KB

Front bolt.

Name: DSC_0645.jpg
Views: 1933
Size: 50.5 KB

Rear bolt.

Name: DSC_0648.jpg
Views: 1802
Size: 36.3 KB

Keep the bolts somewhere safe, you will need them later.

Name: DSC_0649.jpg
Views: 1853
Size: 94.5 KB

There is another air valve underneath the intake manifold.

Name: DSC_0651.jpg
Views: 1791
Size: 57.1 KB

From another view.

Name: DSC_0652.jpg
Views: 1857
Size: 107.7 KB

Slide it, move side to side till gets out.

Name: DSC_0653.jpg
Views: 1828
Size: 44.6 KB

After it pulls out.

Name: DSC_0654.jpg
Views: 1831
Size: 38.5 KB

Now this connector is difficult to remove, unless you free up the intake manifold.

Name: DSC_0657.jpg
Views: 1811
Size: 83.2 KB

Remove the throttle bodies clamps or destroy them like I did.

Name: DSC_0658.jpg
Views: 1802
Size: 42.9 KB

Loose this connector to gain space for other clamps.

Name: DSC_0659.jpg
Views: 1883
Size: 90.3 KB

Once you remove all clamps, pull your manifold away from the throttle bodies. Wait, don't try to pull it out of engine bay yet.

Name: DSC_0660.jpg
Views: 1844
Size: 53.1 KB

Now go back to the hose near the alternator and you should be able to disconnect it now.

Name: DSC_0663.jpg
Views: 1855
Size: 40.1 KB

There is a last hose going to bottom of the intake manifold.

Name: DSC_0667.jpg
Views: 1835
Size: 29.0 KB

Another view.

Name: DSC_0668.jpg
Views: 1833
Size: 98.3 KB

It is easier to disconnect from bottom instead of top.

Name: DSC_0669.jpg
Views: 1869
Size: 89.1 KB

Now you pull out the intake manifold. You will surprised that it's heavy little.

After removing.

Name: DSC_0671.jpg
Views: 1819
Size: 129.6 KB

You can temporarily hook the MAF cable to a clip.

Name: DSC_0661.jpg
Views: 1782
Size: 99.4 KB

It's really a good opportunity to clean your throttle bodies and other parts.

Name: DSC_0681.jpg
Views: 1780
Size: 102.9 KB

In next post I will show you how to prepare and install your CF airbox.
