I do 9-10 hpde events a year on R888R (295/265), you'll like those tires. They last me about 30-36 heat cycles with slow drop off in grip, work well in cold and hot weather, (36F up to 100F), and they are inexpensive. I run them at 25-26psi cold to 32psi hot. Not as fast as slicks, but great R-compound choice. Go Toyo RR if you want even more grip, but stiffer sidewall, may be sweet spot for you before going full slick.

If you're not doing competition, any reason to run slicks other than lap records?

NT-01s and other Rs are comparable, it will come down to availability and tire size that you want in the end imho.
