Like Finnegan said above you might have air in the system.

In my experience BMW clutch hydraulics have limited life span of 5-6 years and/or 60k-100k miles. The older / more worn it is the more air starts getting into the slave / master cylinders. With our 10-13 year old cars I really doubt cylinders are still in good shape. On mine I definitely feel some weirdness - sometimes it feels like not disengaging completely but most of the time it's absolutely fine. But it's getting worse with time. So I'm planing on replacing both master and slave at the same time just as a preventative measure.

On my previous (much younger) 3 serious the slave started to behave weirdly already at 65kmiles. Replacing it made shifts butter smooth again.
