This might be worth a shot as it's clearly the easiest solution.

Removing the welded stud will be very difficult as will welding in a new one due to the poor access.
I didn't even think about this until a local forum member told me last night. We're going to try to rethread the stud this week and place a new nut on it. I've already ordered new bolts to go on all of them.
