I really don't think it's that bad. A small premium over the 440i (albeit with xDrive, but obviously not as low-volume). Also smack in the middle between the Boxster and Boxster S (without options) and in line with the SLC43. And the Z4s30i being at $62,500 lines up against the SLC300 and undercuts the Porsche. In the day where a Miata tops out at $40k CAD, it seems in-line for BMW's roadster.
What I do think is interesting is that Toyota priced the Supra at $65k. Even if it's 4-cyl I'd take the BMW over that, and for around ~$10k more (not much considering most of these will be leased) you get MUCH nicer styling, more power, likely more luxurious amenities, and a convertible top.

Not that I agree, but that's a pretty common take on the E86 - beautiful back-end but less-than-stellar front end. I think I've heard that about the E36/7/8 too - though the reverse. I'd take all three over the hideous looking Supra. But the reality is I'm not the target market for the new cars so I'll keep my E86 forever lol.
