Looking at TireRack I see that a 255/40 Michelin Pilot Super Sport is 8.5 inches in tread width while a 265/35 is 9.8 inches and 275/35 is 9.6. Interesting! The 275 has a smaller tread size than the 265 when both are mounted to a 9.5 inch rim. I bet a 10inch rim would flatten the 275 out a bit more. This new knowledge has opened a whole new world for me! One reason why when everyone was pushing 275's in the rear, I went with the 265/40 PSS on my car.
