Yeah, I've just started dipping my toe into the whiskey/scotch arenas and am trying to find what I like. With scotch I like smokey and hot and I'm tending to lean that way in my whiskeys too... If I'm not mistaken, rye is often a decent middle ground between smokey/hot scotches and sweet/smooth bourbons, right? |
Yeah, in a sense. Ryes tend to be less sweet and spicier. Hotter is more a matter of proof, and it's easy to find bourbons and ryes in stronger proofs than Scotches, but all are available in greater than 80 proof without too much hunting.
