Purchased the sport mode button from ECS tuning and received it earlier this week. Took my time taking the center console apart so that I didn’t break anything. Removing the knee pads was difficult. Even more difficult was trying to remove the Airbag indicator light. Couldn’t get the light to push out so ended up having to separate the switch (it snaps together).
Took my time drilling out the hole for the sport switch. Use various drill bits to get the bulk of the material out and then finished up with a dremel.
Got the switch installed and the car back together last night.
This morning I used NCS to update my car’s VO and enabled the sport switch option in the EPS. Started the car and the switch works!
Took it for a short drive. Can definitely feel the difference in throttle response and steering weight. The shift points are obviously higher too (stays in the higher RPM range). Not sure that I like the shift points for normal driving, but for spirited driving it’s spot on.
I like the steering and throttle response very much and would like to be able to keep these changes enabled in regular driving mode. May look into custom maps...
All in all, I’m happy with the relative ease it took to add this feature to my car. Big thanks to the BMW enthusiast community for the various write-ups that make this type of mod possible for most owners to perform.
