After my failed attempt to remove the door I found it is possible to get those out with the door still attached, just not easy.
Not sure which is more of a faff. Taking the door off, or removing the screws 1/4 turn at a time.

I didn't know that was possible. I just assumed the door had to come off to get to the screws. That's great you were able to get access without removing the door. Knowing that now, I probably would leave the door on and go slow on the Torx screws. It's unnerving popping that door off.
