However.

On the other side of the argument, my non M M54 3 litre is an absolute beast with a Vortech blower, 3.25 pulley, custom intercooler and the most important thing, tuning.
Thanks to Pokeybritches from Severn Tuning. Josh has spent countless hours tuning and fine tuning my car.

There is so much left on the table by the blower suppliers in regards to the supplied tune due to liability of detonating an engine.
A good tuner can find so much more power by incrementally adjusting parameters through datalogging.
At 14-15 psi, there aren't too many Z4's (M or non-M) that can keep up with yours. It wasn't until the past few years that discoveries within the MS45 ECU allowed high boost without bogging, hesitation, or misfires. I'm looking forward to picking up my built engine tomorrow and finding out what the stock ECU can really do .

Markski? I pretty much bought his entire catalog for my 996 Turbo . I'm about $40k deep in mods, counting the supporting work I've done over the past year. There are cars out there with more power, but the grip of a rear-engined car with awd and semi-slicks is impossible to beat. It's cost me about 3x as much to maintain as my Z4M's though. Hopefully that's just the first year wrinkles being ironed out.
