I'd surely go this route before commissioning a complete dash swap. The other option would be to take it to an upholstery shop and have them cover the dash in leather, alcantara, or some other material. I can't imagine it would be terribly expensive nor nearly as intrusive as a dash swap.

Do post pics of the Covercraft solution when you get it. Those guys make good stuff - I'll bet it turns out quite nice.
