There is a lot of pro 1 talk over there.

Every e46m3 vs 135 thread ends up getting shut down.

the 135 stock
1. is not faster straight line than a z4m (13.4@105), drivers race maybe, but not faster
2. suspension is dialed to understeer on non sticky run flats, with lots of pitch, dive and roll
3. brakes are solid, as good as M i'd say
4. track limited by temperature, with heat soak on slow courses, and cooking the oil on all of them. I love that i only need regular 5/40 bmw synthetic every 15k and it runs 230 all the time and will get to 260 on the back roads in the summer...

the z4m
1. is rougher over the road
2. is much smaller and less practical while weighing about the same
3. must be wrung out to get the power from it

so all week, sitting in traffic, going from location to location and spending time on the phone, grabbing a bite to eat, etc. the 1 is a much better car for that.

come the weekend and some back roads, and fun time, to feel that connection to the car, to get to wind it out, have steering that has not only tightness but decent road feel (not even this car compares to say an e36), and drive a car that to me has some attitude. that's the z4m.

I know i'm fortunate to be able to own both, and i like both for different reasons.

My 1 is a fair bit faster straight line than the z4m now with mods, but the feeling is all different. There's a huge thread in the 1m section about 1m vs ttrs from car and driver, and everyone is touting how the 1m is better and the winner because it's the package of handling, power, and road feel and drive that is absent in the much faster ttrs. I feel the same way here, even though my 135 may be faster, i "enjoy" driving the z4m more.

Either way you're going to find fans that will defend their car simply because it's their car.
