Has anyone done this and is it a big job to replace? Does it make a big difference?
Thanks

I second the approach of
garz747 . Try a heavier, shorter ZHP shift knob and a transmission fluid flush.

When I purchased my Z4M it had a UUC Evo3 short shifter install which has a very direct, bolt-action rifle like shifting experience. Fun when the car is warm and you are hammering on it, difficult 1-2 shift when cold. It broke unexpectedly and I went back to the stock setup while UUC underwent a free warranty repair. Needless to say I did NOT miss the short shifter and still have the stock components in place with a ZHP shift knob.
