A few years ago I vacationed in mostly France, Switzerland, and Germany by Eurail with my family for two weeks. The trains (especially TGV) are great for long distance travel. If you drive 5 hours, you've probably crossed into another country. So I wonder if many Germans drive 5 hours (and thus get thirsty)? When we were in Germany we had to abandon the trains to Bavaria. Our manual transmission mini-van could only go so fast on the autobahn. Visited the BMW Munich factory where I corrected the guide when he tried pointing out what he thought was the new (at the time) M6 - it only had dual tips.

I was puzzled by your "click" comment since mine does not. I just now consulted the fine manual which also describes "adjust the holder to fit the size of the beverage container". The passenger size (which I've never tried) does indeed ratchet while the driver's side does not.

So big thanks for pointing this out! Especially since my car is still under factory warranty! I probably would have never realized this.

Haha I wondered how you had a complaint about these cupholders haha I love them. Go get yours fixed! I am going to Europe for 3 weeks this summer and I'm going to the BMw factory in Munich and the Porsche factory in Stuttgart I can't wait. Excited to drive on the autobahn too it's been a life long dream

Some important things:
1) Reserve the English tour in advance.
2) Either bring your own GPS or make sure the car you rent has the English NAV disk. My wife thought her high school German would be good enough to navigate, but it was not - all the roads have very long similar looking names to me.

Have fun!

Not that!! Just very long road trips! I was fortunate enough to add one of these cupholders which I really like and it tends to fit anything I pick up at the drive-thru. The only thing that bugs me about the originals is that I park my knee up close to it and worry I will bump my drink out of it. Picture snagged from Roadster Solutions (I hope they don't mind), however they say it is no longer available. I don't know if other places have any left.
