The trim DI-NOC was easy. Painting the switch cover is the pain, because you have to prep by stripping the soft touch plastic, then prime, base coat, then clear. I still need to take the switches off and sand and compound it. Not 100% happy with the clear coat.

Yep. Both of mine are shot. Just got them delivered by GetBMWParts.com, along with a new cabin micro filter cover.

Refurbishing the Style 108 wheels for my Z4R 3.0si. Going with carbon fiber hydro print for the wheel centers and mirror polished natural aluminum for the outer barrel. Hoping it all looks like the picture I've got in my head when it's done!
Should have them back together by early next week....

Not yet. I pick them up from the hydro printer tomorrow and I'll decide if I'm going add more clear or not once I see them in person. The hydro printer is putting a coat of clear on them already.

That will be color matched paint on rear sides and alcantara on the inside. After the holidays we should hang and get caught up. |

Just got a nice six pack of these in today! Dinan Throttle bodies,
The suspense is killing me. I really hope to have the engine back from the machine shop by the end of January. |

Taking the wheels apart requires heating the wheel body to about 250 degrees F to soften the locking compound. I used a propane torch to heat the area around each bolt, and a digital IR thermometer to assure they were hot enough. The bolts have an 8mm triple square head. Northern tool is where I found a 3 bit set that had a the correct size. With a 24 inch breaker bar it should only take about 2 fingers of pressure to break the bolt loose. You DO NOT want to force it and break off the head of one of the bolts, or even worse strip out the head. The bolts are titanium which is an extremely difficult metal to machine. Once you've got them apart, you use a paint stripper like Kleen Strip to remove the clear coat on the outer rim. Once the clear coat is off you wet sand with 3000 grit to bring clean aluminum to the surface, then polish with Mothers Aluminum and Mag Wheel polish. For the inner barrels and the inner wheel surface, that's just the usual prep and paint process. You'll want to mask off the outer rim you polished to keep the paint off it. For the hydro printing TWN Industries manufactures the majority of the films used and also certifies hydro printers. You can contact them to find someone local. https://watertransferprinting.com/se...ed-processors/ If you decide to take on the project, you can PM me as you go for more guidance.
