Current DME software options & opinions?

Haven't been around the forum much, what can I say, new job, 4 1/2 month old son, got just a tad bit on my plate...

Looking for what the engine management software options are currently, if any new players are on the block. Also, would be great if people with software could say how long they've been running it and how it's been working.

Looking to install euro headers, thinking it could be a good time for software - performance benefit and disabling post-cat O2s as well (as opposed to a different mid pipe solution)

I've done ECU flash software on other non-BMW vehicles before, never felt like it was totally trouble free, glitchy. So, I'm a bit weary of it based on that, but this is an entire different car and different vendors too.

If this has been summarized before and recently, just direct me to the thread - searched, couldn't find anything real current.

I am actually in a similar position as you....I have a set of vac/fabspeed headers ready to go on, and I am going to be looking for a tune.

from what I have gathered...t

he shark injector is like being in sport mode all the time, super sensitive throttle and no huge power.

Evolve is relatively new with their Evolve-R, which is supposed to be pretty fantastic. sal can basically tune for any modifications via email and download from your laptop...very simple and convenient

I have been trying to find out more about AA's handheld flash loader, but haven't had much success...it looks pretty attractive though, good price and easy to use

If you're not going to be re-routing your o2s, I think your only choice is evolve. They'll turn down the rear o2s but still report ready for smog purposes.

I have euro headers, DKF S pipe and Evolve tune and couldn't be happier. No codes and pulls really strong

Definitely don't want to change throttle feel/response much if at all - I never use sport mode, can't stand the throttle mapping

The AA tune can't turn down/off the post-cat O2s? Will have to contact them.

I hate that BMW changes engine management so much in the Z4M over what they guys with E46 M3s have - I guess that DME is much more tune friendly...

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm looking to buy either Macht Schnell or Fabspeed headers. Since the post-cat sensors are in the header itself with these brands, I'm just skeptical that evolve can turn down the o2 readings enough to not trigger any codes. Also, I wonder if the EGT sensor is an issue or if the tune can correct that too?
