Battery part number confusion on z4m

The battery in my car is 61217553951 "See SI 610696 (110)" 70AH 760CCA

I call my dealer and they suggest 61217586961 80AH 640CCA

The oem '951' battery is apparently not available. It seems odd that they would replace it with a lower rated battery. The parts guy claims that the newer 961 is what they use on the e90, and is a lower rated battery. He basically suggested I keep looking and fine a 760cca battery....

Thoughts? I know 12v is 12v, I know I can go aftermarket but in general I prefer to stick with BMW parts. However, I don't really want to put in a lower rated battery.

Can someone lookup "SI 610696 (110)" ? Google did not help.

Personally, I think you're overthinking this decision. I replaced the battery in my M coupe a few months ago with an AGM battery from O'Reilly. It was about $150 with a $25 rebate and had the EXACT same spec's as the battery I pulled out of my car. It was a 48ext AGM battery, 760cca, same size, color, markings, everything. It was identical in every way to the one that I was replacing. However, if you want to pay twice as much for the same battery at the BMW dealer and get a warranty that's not nearly as good, go for it.

Thanks for the input. I decided to go with the autozone duralast platinum as it has better ratings. The current oreilly's battery is only 600cca, versus the autozone 730cca.

The dealer 961 battery is $180, so it's definitely not twice the price.

Ended up with a Napa battery, made by east penn or possibly exide. 760cca, 875ca for $170. # BAT 9848

Way to go. I picked up a BOSCH battery at the local PepBoys, same deal, adequate general battery specs, and it was a bit smaller in size to boot.

Good info. There's a battery sticky and associated spreadsheet. If you have a minute please update with your data.

Same battery as the O'Reilly EXT48 AGM
