40 Years of M - Bimmer Magazine drives (almost) every M car at the 'Ring
The latest copy of Bimmer Magazine came today and one of their feature articles is an M car track test "From 3.0 CSL to M6".
"To celebrate the 40th anniversary of M and Motorsport, BMW brought an example of nearly every M car ever built, from the original 3.0 CSL to the latest F13 M6, to Nürburgring, where we would be able to experience these fabulous cars in their native environment." (Italics mine.) Guess which ones were missing? Yup, you guessed it: "Strangely, BMW didn't bring along either of the Z4 M cars; we'd have loved another run in the Z4 M Coupe, in particular." So we got snubbed by BMW, although they did bring a Z3 M Roadster. Otherwise, the article is pretty good and has some great pictures of some old and new ///M cars.

Yeah I got that and when I saw the (almost) in the title of the article, I somehow knew our car got snubbed. It was a nice honorable mention however and a very cool read. On page 42 is a pic and description of the S-54 and on page 49 is a brief blurb and specs on Z4 M roadster/coupe.

That seems strange. As passionate as people are on this board about these cars, why wouldn't they find a way to get one on the track? Is it because our cars are in short supply? BMW didn't think our "M" was good enough to run with the others? They just forgot about this model?!

Just a guess, but if the Ms they did bring were from the Welt museum in Munich, they don't have any Z4s in it aside from the GT3. When I was there last summer I was quite disappointed. They had an M room but no Z4s.

I knew it. The Daleks took 'em all. But at least they have good taste in cars!

Of course, I'm thrilled to see the Z4 on a race track, even if it's the E89 variation, and ALMS at Long Beach is already on my calendar!

Bimmer got the specs wrong too for the E85/86 S54. It has the MSS70 ECU. not MSS54.
I think the fun of the Z4M just embarrasses the other newer Ms..... it may not have been a random omission. ![]()

For those who felt snubbed, try to find the article that BMWcar magazine (british mag) recently published on the e85/86 ///M in the December 2012 issue as part of thier 'part 4' of 40 years of ///M. Was a fun read.
I wish I had a link to post... had to bring this copy home from HKG airport, had never seen the mag before.

I've always thought that in some way the Z4Ms are like the read headed step child of BMW...takes the right person to love em and respect em.
