TIS

I am looking to purchase a TIS disk (if available) for a 2008 E86 Coupe. I have one for an '05 roadster but it will only run on Win 95. Has BMW written anything for a newer operating system? Apparently this has been pulled from the "spaghetti" server. Any other constructive ideas?

After 2008 the TIS went online only, and it costs a small fortune to access. Your best bet is finding the last windows version of TIS.

The latest TIS that you can download or buy from Ebay is the 2007 and it covers the 2008 Z4's. It just might not have some of the last 2008 VIN numbers so you just select a generic Z4 for the year.

This is what I do on my 2007 TIS and 2008 MC. These cars did not change much... A M is an M, an SI is an SI, a 3.0i is a 3.0i.......

The ones I see on ebay now are in the UK. I am sure I saw some in the US before BUT they wouldn't ship to Canada. Do you think there would be any issues with the one from the UK, other than wrong side steering??

Thanks to all for the help. I just ordered a disk via Ebay. I do, however, have a disk for BMW and Mini up to 2005 for sale. It only runs on Win 95 (that was my problem, too technologically advanced). Best offer plus whatever shipping might be involved.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure the last one is december 2007, which definitely covers any 2008 model.

You can also just find online and download, no need for ebay.

I ordered one from the UK a few days ago for about $5 shipped. I hadn't considered UK differences like the steering but I think it should cover everything. Guess I'll find out. Still, for five dollars if it helps me with one or two things it was totally worth it.

The TIS is the same all over the world. No difference to the software if you order it from the UK or HongKong....

The TIS (no matter what version) only runs in an XP environment. It does not like Win7 64bit...

Anyone know if it will run on a Mac? Sounds like I might need to revive an ancient PC laptop I have laying around.

I have it running on my mac with wine, it's not for the faint of heart see this thread.

Of course you can always do it the easy way with bootcamp. I've done the evolve coding from the bootcamp partition without a problem. Next weekend I'll tackle setting up inpa/winkpf/dis/etc.

To avoid the pain in getting the TIS to work with Wine on OS-X or Linux, VirtualBox is by far the best solution if you have an old Windows XP licence lying around. https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads. Works flawlessly (including all printing functions) on my Fedora 17 Linux box.

I actually have 3 virtual Windows operating systems on this Linux box that has 16GB of RAM - Windows 8 in a 4GB virtual machine, Windows XP in a 1GB virtual machine and DOS 6.22 (for an old version of AutoCad) in a 32MB virtual machine. All run flawlessly and concurrently (if necessary) in windows on a Gnome 3 desktop, sharing networking, USB, disk and print resources between each other and the host Linux operating system. XP actually boots in 10 seconds, even though the operating system image is stored in a file on regular disk, as opposed to solid state disk.
