M5 ZHP, whos gonna be the first?

Whos gonna be the first to test this out? The guys over at M3forums have gotten it to work with their vehicles, anyone try this yet now that its available? I notice the M5 and M3 both have square bases while ours is round, may be a problem?

What is the advantage of putting an M5 shifter in your car? Is the ball better or something?

Shorter weighted knob. Takes away the rubbery feel of the OE goose neck knob. Similar to ZHP, but illuminated.

I put one in mine tonight. I had been putting it off for fear of issues, but it went swimmingly well. I used wire cutters to remove the plastic grommet which held the boot to the knob. It came off easily(just be careful you don't cut the wires to the knob). Carefully remove the plastic surround/boot on the Z4 and disconnect the wire clip to the knob. I put the car in 5th and pulled until the knob slid off. Reverse the process to install. The thing I like best is the lighting of the new knob is much brighter and more even and the metal ring at the base of the knob is a nice match to the aluminum interior. It is shorter than the OEM knob which may bother some. I have not driven with it yet, but it worked fine sitting in the garage.

Awesome. Do you have some pics? I'm specifically interested to see the area where the wire comes out of the ring of the M5 knob and into the boot of the Z4, and if it's noticeable at all. Also general pictures of how it looks are welcome too. =)

The wires are exactly the same as the OEM knob which is not attached to the boot either. You will not see them at all. They attached exactly as OEM(which is kind of funny as there was just a tangle of wire when I removed the boot) -kind of messy looking for a BMW. The lighting looks so much better(even) than the OEM.

For some reason I can not get good photos even with a Nikon D90 camera. I guess I am a shitty photographer as the camera should be up to the task. I wanted a shot of the lighting as it looks so much better, but could not get it without severe blur.
looks good!

a few quick photography tips for you. for the focusing issue use center focus! if you want to shoot it without flash you are gonna have to use a tripod or rest the camera or your supporting arms on something stable while the shutter is open. give it a try!
