Is a "Rebuilt Title" just another name for a "Salvage Title"?

Still a beautiful car, nonetheless.
I believe salvage title is for a car that has damage exceeding its worth and needs to be repaired. A rebuilt title is a salvaged car that has been fixed and is able to be driven. All rebuilt titled cars were once deemed salvage. |

I agree!
A true ///M color. I'll never understand why it wasn't offered as an OE color.

Anyone in the area of the vehicle care to take a look at it and report back any suspicions? Panel gaps, frame damage, etc...
I've acquired photos of vehicle from the salvage yard. Seems to have had extensive front left / front damage, rear passenger door damage, driver door doesn't shut properly, driver rear quarter/rear light damage. No glass damage nor hood damage, surprisingly. Inquiring further about the vehicle myself, if anyone is interested. I've purchased rebuilt vehicles in the past (my Supra is one of them), and you get good and bad ones. Vehicles will only achieve rebuilt status after insurance and DOT inspects vehicle after rebuild to assure they are safe to drive.

There are some looking for $36k for 2006 40k miles clean title. You can argue both ways quite frankly.
They are asking $26k for this one. Most likely negotiable. Vehicles aren't investments, there is obviously a limit on cost, but a well rebuilt vehicle (especially a rare breed) can fetch as much as a non-salvaged vehicle. I've seen this with Porsche 997s and Ferrari. Usually, the rebuilding facility documents ad nauseum which helps legitimize the sale price. I've never been keen on purchasing a vehicle because of its resell value.

I agree vehicles aren't investments but also don't see any reason to pay more than they are worth. Without massive modifications to the origininal why would a well rebuilt vehicle ever sell for as much as a non rebuilt? I can't see them ever putting it back together better than it was OEM and the likely hood that it isn't as good as OEM are there. I do consider the resale value on anything expensive that I buy. It's an indication of what it is worth now. |

Yeah, I would never pay more than 50% of retail value for a salvage title. It is also called a "branded title" since it will always carry that salvage/rebuilt title. Selling the car, or in some cases registering or insuring it will never be as easy as with a regular title car.

That listing is for a car with a rebuilt title and it has 50K miles, not 40K. It has 49K miles so it's MUCH closer to 50, not 40.
This car is a much better deal IMHO for the same price. No title issues and only 10K more miles. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-Z...item43b4f8c868 I wouldn't pay over $18K for the blue car. They are insane to even think they would get anywhere near what a clean title car is getting.

Not surprised if these salvage-rebuilds circle the wagons between body shops, dealers and auction sites as they are tough to sell. Laguna Seca pre-rebuild photos attached

Will they let perspective buyers test drive it? I think that after driving it and rowing through the gears, going on a couple of banked on-ramps, you would be able to tell if it was worth buying or not.......... just my .02
