Hi everybody,
Here is a thread to introduce myself on this forum. My name is Marc, I'm 30 years old. I'm from Montreal, QC, Canada. My first language is french. I'm working as a CNC technician for Pratt & Whitney Canada. I have an ASN/FSAQ instructor license for the last 4 years. I sold my E46 M3 track car one week before Christmas. I build this car over the years from a HPDE car, Time Attack car to a full road race car. I was supposed to race in GT Sprint for the 2012 season but I decided to sell the car. Storage space for the car and trailer is the main reason why I sold the car. You can take a look at my E46 M3 build-up thread here: http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=316864 http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139479 And this is a link to my Youtube channel, video from last summer lapping days: http://www.youtube.com/user/M3Gtfour?feature=mhee -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was in the market to get a Porsche 996 GT3. But I couldn't found one on this side of the border and import one from USA is kinda pricey, don't feel like loosing 10k and more on taxes, customs fees, ... Than I saw this Z4MC for sale and instantly fall in love with it. It was wrose car on this forum. Very nice guy by the way. This is a short summary when I pick up the car, some of you already saw those pics in wrose for sale thread: 2700 km later, I am back from Halifax with my Z4MC. I live in Montreal, Qc so I had to cross New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to pick up the car. Road condition were not the best. I did all the trip alone, so about 10-12 hours per day, let say the X5 was thirsty: 17L/100km to go and 23L/100km on my way home. And this is with a aluminum Trailex that weight only 900lbs... There was a lot of fog on the Cobequid passage in Nova Scotia, I can't see more than 100m up front... I also hit a big snowstorm between Fredericton et Edmunston, it took me 2 hours more than it was supposed to be. I wasn't able to go over 90km/h. As soon as I hit the brake, ABS was activated and wheels would blocked. A lot of stress when you pull a trailer / 5000lbs of charge on mountain road... Everything was so dirty when I came back, I won't post pics Wayne cause you might have a heart attack! I spent the entire day yesterday to clean up the trailer, X5 and Z4MC with the washing pressure machine. I went for a spin with the car and the ESS kit is really addictive. Can't wait for summer now! So I'm looking to compete in different Time Attack series for the 2012 season with the Z4MC. I also have some modifications in mind for the Z4MC, I would like to upgrade the suspension, brakes, ... First mods will be Fabspeed headers in a near future, just need some time to install them! |

Surprised me at the end with the supercharger detail! Very cool. Don't you love how hard it pulls near redline? Don't forget that you can upgrade this to the VT2-500 kit
your e46 looked very track focused. Can't wait to see what you'll do with the Z4M

It cross my mind but I won't go VT-500 this year for sure. I would like to do A LOT of things to the car before this upgrade. The next big upgrades I have in mind are: -Fabspeed headers -4.10 diff -KW Clubsport coilovers -Performance Friction 2 pieces rotors with PF01 pads -Another set of Apex wheels with Hoosier R6 for the track |

Wow!
Congratulations! It's going to be interesting to see what you do with the car! I'll make my usual comment about transmission mounts and probably upgraded engine mounts which are a must do if Wrose didn't already install them. If you do the engine mounts, I'd upgrade the engine mount bolts at the same time to the motorsport variety. A cheap and effective camber solution for the front end are the Turner camber washers, which give negative camber on the kingpin side, which can be used to mitigate changes to the scrub radius caused by more aggressive offsets. Good discussion on this thread. (Running those Hoosers I think you'll need like, -3.5 or so anyway.) Some things to consider, and I'm sure the FI guys will chime in as they're the experts, not me: Fabspeed headers are not supported by ESS IIRC. Others have tried these with the ESS kit, and I don't recall it going well. (Could very well be wrong, just something to check.) Euro headers are supported I believe, and you can usually find a good set for ~700-800. (Donovan finds these and sells them, you can contact him or wait for a FS thread from him or others.)Enjoy! Great car, jelly of the S/C. Last edited by Finnegan; 02-28-2012 at 12:58 PM.. |

Its true that the ESS tune is header sensitive. Another member had issues with his aftermarket SS headers. I'm running Jethot coated Euro headers.
some supercharged e46 M3s run 3.91 differentials, but I think most shy away from it because they fear even worse traction issues in 1st gear

Congrats on the new toy. Can't believed you drove through all that snow with 20s on the X5 (assuming summer tires as well?)!

But winter tires on OEM 20" are 275/40r20, which is a bit too large to have good traction in snow. |

Good to know about the Fabspeed and ESS kit. I am wondering if it it just because the 4 o2 sensors were installed into the headers or if it's the tubing design itself that caused the problem? Maybe I can just relocate 2 bungs at the end of the secondary cats like the euro section 1 and have no problem? I am still not sure about 3.91 and 4.10. 4.10 was a great modification on my E46 M3. I know it wasn't S/C but I remember a couple of guys on m3forum.net running stage 2 AA or VFE with 4.10 and really like it. The 4.10 match my ''local'' track pretty well, perfect for LCMT, Calabogie and Mosport. I don't really care about 1st and 2nd gear cause those are useless on the track. But 10% more torque on 3-4-5 on the track and having the car more rev happy is what I am looking for. |

Jelly before, even more jelly now that I see the existing mods list! That's one nicely modded machine!
I don't think the issue with the Fabspeed headers was a question of 02 location, something with design/flow. Like I said, not my area, just something to do homework on before shelling out $$$. You might just want to talk to ESS and get it from the proverbial horse's mouth. |

Beautiful car and welcome!
You can relocate the O2s like the euro section. Lots of posts on here and it looks like there is success doing it. Dunno about passing emissions though. I checked into Fabspeed headers and you need to cut or bend the heat shield. I spoke directly to VAC motorsports and there are some posts on here regarding that as well. Your best bet is to go Euro headers as they have the best fit. |

Welcome to the group.
I hope you plan on spending most of your time on the track. I grew up in Montreal and the pot holes in the street are the worst you will find anywhere. If I still lived there I doubt I would have ever bought my Z4MC. Nice smooth roads and there's little better to enjoy this true sport car! |
