yeah more than id hoped BUt.... compared to an Akrapovic, this is nothing....... and this is still by far the best option for our cars, im going to go in on the GB chris on the stipulation that the o2 bungs are available for the race cat option as per the pics in DKFs thread, also on the understanding this doesnt interfere with our tune at all and the car runs fine over a prolonged period, lastly the tips are shortened as per DKF thread, he mentions he will be shortening them slightly, im IN!!!

The point of supporting a 1 man show (DKF) is that you get really high quality material (supersprint level and higher) for a lower price since there was less cost to develop due to less people being involved.

The price non-GB should be 80% the group buy prices now and about 65% in the actual GB

The pics I added to page 2 were just a quick sample of what was updated on page 1 post number #2. There are two photos of the race cats in post #2; one of the logo side of the cats and one showing the O2 bungs

Here is a shot of them on the scale:

The system is expensive, but it is better quality, better design and has more options than similarly priced systems. If the system makes the performance gains DKF anticipates, then this system will be a no brainer for me. On a positive note regarding price, the GB pricing ended up being a little less than what I agreed to pay for a complete system when I started tested the components

I agree with Byron here. I was skeptical when DKF approached me, until I physically saw the product for the first time. Since I have the product in my hands for testing, I can tell you that the quality is higher than anything else I have installed on our cars (Super Sprint, Eisemann, Rogue & RPI). In my opinion the system is in a league of its own bridging the gap between High end companies like Super Sprint and the "reigning champs" Akrapovic.

The real proof of engineering success will be in the dyno numbers, but from a build quality standpoint, there is nothing at this level of quality available for the Z4 M. Four of the characteristics that stand out to me in terms of quality are the following:

-Full ceramic coating (not just for looks, but for improved performance)
-Machine welds
-Race clamp design
-Hanger innovation for improved adjustability and dampening

I think that an S-pipe + V1 resonator + Xpipe + sport muffler should cost around 2500$ in the group buy, if that's possible, I'm down with the Group Buy.

Other than that, I cannot justify to myself blowing 4K for sound and a few horses, knowing that the stock system is already great by itself and all it needs is just a little bit of grunt.

Not to mention the adapters being like a monetary sanctions for people who don't purchase the whole system.

I really appreciate the level of engineering put in this system and i have been following this thread since day 1 because i am an engineer myself and i enjoy my car to the fullest but seeing this GB prices was like robbing me of my 10 million dollar lottery ticket.
So many times I have turned down other exhaust systems waiting for this one.

i simply dont agree..... how on earth can a 1 man band do all this, with this type of quality cheaper???? research, testing, more testing, new parts, testing of cats, hangers, fitment, testing of coatings, hell the list is endless..... this IS a good price, no doubt its expensive but its by FAR the best option for our cars and imo is insanely close to Akra quality without the 10k price tag..........

this guy has single handedly built this sytem and im behind him 100% hell im happy to pay alittle premium to a one man band like DKF!! the man gets my respect.....

now enough talk in this thread, maybe talk in the orginal DKF but... im in!!!

I'm not denying the outstanding quality, I was just hoping that since it's a small party project it would cosy less than the other exhausts, but it costs more and I can't talk my brain into this project no marr how wierd the excuses I keep coming up with.

I do understand 4500 bucks is a huge amount of money in anyones language....... Usually the smaller team the more costs involved......

Simply stunning pipes however...

Based on what?

You've evidently never been responsible for P/L on a volume-based project.

DKF is responsible for the same fixed costs (R&D) regardless of how many pieces he produces. His dollar volume of R&D will be fairly similar to that of a larger performance exhaust manufacturer trying to develop a new product for a finite market. Assuming he is trying to break even, and not earn a profit off of the GB, and given the inordinate amount of research and development to-date, I'm surprised the system is this cheap. Don't forget, a company like Supersprint or Akroprovic can amortize their R&D across multiple product lines. DKF can't.

where are the costs of resource maintenance and employee salaries, ...
@beedub: the costs per person is much higher because it's 1 person, but overall the cost is much lower than maintaining a company.

Anw, let's just leave it at that, I don't want to discuss my financial administration skills on the internet and I surely don't want to ruin the experience of this exhaust for anyone.

A lower price would lure me in.

Ehat happens if you completely decat the exhaust, less mpg or just a cel?

No need to say that to me dub, why take it personally?

if you want to buy one, buy one, my ideas shouldn't be stopping you, i still have the right to say that it's expensive relatively to the costs. Maybe I'm wrong.

No one said anything about the effect of de-catting, anyone? I'm still thinking about the cheapest option by decatting and using a street resonator with a sport muffler.

lol if you think that was me taking that personally you really need to toughen up :-)

ok no probs, weve established you wont be buying one.....great... hell i might not be buying one if it doesnt work with my ess s/c tune.... we'll see, who knows, they may even adjust pricing slightly..... either way... lets wait and see and stop clogging the thread :-)

in all honesty from what ive seen the stock system is very well designed :-) if i had to keep mine i really wouldnt be dissapointed :-)

now onto this groupbuy!! anymore takers??

I'm sure you have realized when you first bought this car knowing that EVERYTHING for it is expensive. You gotta pay big to play big. You get what you paid for and as far as this system goes its definitely worth every penny. If you think it's too expensive buy something of lesser quality, but don't complain about it since cost is a factor for you. As far as the price being expensive relatively to the costs of making it, you probably have no clue how much money and time went to this development so you can't really make a quick call saying it's less than that of a large company simply because Geo and his partners decided to make it on their own. A large company would already have the equipment, tools, prior R&D, and a lot of the resources in place whereas Geo had to start from scratch making it more expensive. Not trying to get on anyone but as Beedub said "If its too much..... Dont buy one." I'd gladly pay 4k for this exhaust system any day than over some overpriced crap exhaust system or 10k for an exhaust from Akrapovic. Well on second thought if Akrapovic ever did make an exhaust system for our car I probably would buy it.

lol I regret ever saying anything, I should have sent it to DKF.

btw i think "Akrapovic" is pretty retarded, same for the stupid not able to be raced valvetronic 7k muffler kreissieg.

If you want to spend that much money on a Z4M, why not just buy a GTR, it costs as much as you guys have paid over the years.

I hope you will be happy with the exhaust, I know I would if it was a tad cheaper.
please let's just agree to disagree and continue shopping.

any ideas about the CEL and MPG when de-catting?

There is a straight pipe option with room for the 02 sensors. As far as CEL DKF can say more about that or crfine since they are one of the few that have the entire system and have been running them now for awhile. As far as MPG I really can't see it hurting it.
