X pipe help

I have been searching a lot of threads but can not find the answer I am looking for. I am thinking about getting different mufflers but can not decided if I want to get the X pipe as well.

Has anyone who had different mufflers later installed x pipe? How did it change the sound? Do you get more rasp? Notice any power increase?

If there is already a thread about this that I can not find can some one please post it?

Thanks!

I just installed the SS X-pipe and previously had installed the SS Sport (Race) cans... the X-pipe added more sound, mostly more bass in the form of a deeper sound. Also, didn't notice much sound difference on the top end. Down low and mid range rpm's are noticeably different. I did NOT notice any power increase, I'm pretty sure no one ever could just from a drive. Maybe picked up a few HP from the free flowing design, but you'll never notice it unless its on a dyno. I noticed I'm in your area, if you want to hear my set-up sometime I'd be happy to meet you out and let you check it out.

rpi said to me that they never made an xpipe for our cars as the stock unit was so good, after taking mine off to replace it with the SS unit i had to agree the stock xpipe is a really nice piece imo...... not worth replacing.

Sound and lighter weight is about all you'll get out of it. The stock piece is resonated and quite heavy. I can weigh mine if anyone wants to know. In general, BMW intakes and exhaust are very well designed. All things equal (ie - stock) there are minimal gains to be had, if any.

How much of a sound difference, volume wise, did you all notice after replacing the x-pipe? Was there a definitive increase in volume or not so much?

I replaced the xpipe and mufflers at the same time, so can't comment. Also, my secondary cats are gutted which on the stock exhaust increased volume noticeably...so I can't really comment even if I were to put my stock stuff back on
