Who has a Stealth Radar / Laser Install (Interior)
Thinking about installing a kill switch and/or remote display in a stealth spot, anyone have pics for inspiration? As of now my top choice is the left cup holder which I will replace with the oem blank/cover. Other options are also the ashtray but there has to be more creative spots?

I don't use my remote display since it's function is limited and my RD is mounted over top my rear view mirror.
I do have a power switch for the RD mounted on the removable access plate under the HVAC controls. |

Haha. Important, because RDs are not quite kosher in your state. =D

I run the BEL STi Stealth. TOTALLY undetectable...
Also, it is only illegal to OPERATE a RD in VA. It is legal to own one and have one in the car, turned off of course..... |

It's as stealth as you can get without being a remote RD.
You cannot see it from the sides unless you duck down plus with the window tint, damn near impossible and hard to see from the front. The wiring runs from the fuseblock to the switch and then back over to the right side, up under the A piller trim, under the headliner and exits over the mirror. No wiring is visible.. Running the wiring took all of about 30min. |

Shipkiller, that was EXACTLY what I had in mind!
I plan on doing the V1 similarly, top of windshield with direct cord going in between windshield/headliner, then down the A-pillar, add-a-fuse to fusebox. Then I was going to install my laser jammers and install the kill switch in the under panel where you have your red button. Totally awesome spot b/c 1) the panel is only $8 if you ever need to replace it 2) it's within easy reaching distance and 3) nobody would ever see it since it's facing downwards. |

Bump for an update, hardwired my radar & installed the jammers. Everything is clean, stealth although I may have to fix the jammers later. Jammer placement is CRITICAL and they basically need to be horizontal (in the slats is a big NO NO), level (perpendicular) to the ground, parallel to one another, both facing directly forward (no toe/angle). These minor details could be the difference between JTG and PT!
Given the curvature of the center grill, the adhesive follows those lines and thus they're entirely level. I may have to just suck it up, use the provided L-brackets (drill into bumper) with washers in order to get them level. Plus the further out the better, and as of now they are partially recessed. Stealth kill switch for jammers... oem looking. Like it was never there... Last edited by 3002 tii; 10-24-2011 at 10:07 AM.. |

Put a piece of rubber tape on top of the RD. Now adjust the height of the suction mount and bend it so as the RD is level and up against the bottom of the sun visor. Once you get this settled in, then the RD is horizontal with the plane of the car and does not bounce around... |

1) you have such a stealth location for your V1, even you yourself need another way to control it or 2) you have it mounted in plain sight but you don't want the display to be active so drivers behind you can follow 1 is rarely the case so assuming it's 2... in our cars with the way the interior is, if you mount the V1 high enough like I did I doubt most people behind you would even notice it there. And if you still insist using the remote display, the ash tray is a terrible location because it'll take your eyes off the road. Instead, if you want to be really creative you should try putting the remote display in the left cup holder. The cup holders can be replaced with blank covers, and you might be able to mod that. It's still not ideal in that it's not in direct view but it's not as bad. Plus it looks more trick! That's what I was considering for a while. If you have some kind of tint, 30 or 35, which is normally the max allowed, depending on the state, with the windows closed, you have to almost put your face on the window to see into the car so the RD being spotted is very slight.
Now, this applies to any car following you, if you have tints on the rear window. PLUS, since our cars sit so low, the car following you has to be even lower than the Zed, which is not common. The sight line for most cars puts the frame of the rear hatch in the way. The taller the car the higher the sight line angle. Since I live in a state that RD's are illegal, this factored into my placement and I have never had an issue with the police in the year I have owned my MC. The optimum configuration is a remote RD installation, like the jammers. Then you an put the smaller remote anywhere you need it to be. Currently, I like my RD up high so I really don't take my eyes off the road and the speaker is closer to my ear, so as to hear the alert. Plus, with it being mounted just off the sight line, when it alerts, your peripheral vision (which processes 20,000 times more information than direct sight does) catches the change and you are instantly alerted. |

^some neat general knowledge about peripheral vision there ship
my friends have road tripped with me in-lead many times and all of them concur that it's next to impossible to see the v1 when it's hardwired and mounted directly above the rear view mirror. tt aero front bumper really transforms the look dub, kudos there |

Anyone has a laser jammer installed here? Thinking to install Blinders in my car, any experiences, pix, ideas as to where to mount?

I located my V1 just to the right of the rear view mirror and placed the remote display on the top right of the steering column just under the speedo. The wire feeds out through the dash right at that point so you barely see it. It is mounted with heavy duty velcro so it could be quickly detached and hidden if necessary. I also fabricated a mount for the detector itself. I removed the passenger visor and screwed the mount into the flat spot where the visor mount screws in, then reattached the visor. If you look realy close you can tell that the visor mount protrudes about 1/16" of an inch (the thickness of the metal mount) but it keeps the V1 secure. I removed the suction cups on the V1 mount and attached that to my fabricated mount so I can still pull the V1 & store it whenever I park with the top down.
