TPMS valve stem info

I have spent probably more time than is reasonable researching this since the TPMS from the style 224 wheels uses a very long valve stem, and thus looked really silly on the aftermarket wheels that I got. Actually, I think the stock valve stem looks too long even on the M wheels, so I may swap it for a shorter length at some point.

Anyhow, the one that comes with the 224s is BMW PN 36146759741 / 36146792831 and is 56mm long. There are two part numbers because the first one has been superceded by the second. The design seems to have changed as well -- formerly there was a spacer washer that you thread onto the stem from the outside of the wheel before you tighten down the nut. Now, there's a ridge built into the inside of the nut that is crushed as a thread-locking mechanism as the nut is tightened down. The cap style has also changed from the old T-shape one to a more traditional tapered cap.

The Beru (manufacturer) part number is RDV 005.

The following are the 4 alternatives. I suspect the 48mm or 49mm version would work well for the M wheels without sticking out too far and without being too hard to reach. I ended up getting the 43mm (which appears to be the most common) for my aftermarket application.

36111095375 / 36146792829 43mm (RDV 001)
36111096449 / 36146792830 48mm (RDV 002)
36111095374 / 36146792828 49mm (RDV 003)
36111095373 / 36146792827 51mm (RDV 004)

Prices seem to range from around $12-15 at dealerships. I believe you can order the Beru numbers from Tirerack for around $10.

Good info. I agree the OE one is fairly long on the factory wheels, which is what I have.
