It's called "skip troweling". It's done by taking a rectangular trowel of "mud", AKA drywall compound, and spreading a thin layer on the wall leaving a rough, uneven texture. Been all the rage here in SoCal for a couple of decades or more. It's also a lot less labor intensive than trying to achieve a perfectly smooth wall.

Most walls in SoCal are "textured" for that reason, usually with "orange peel" texture. Hides a multitude of sins. Drywall repairs usually include the texture step and you can buy cans of the stuff at Home Depot that spray blotchy globs onto the wall. It takes practice to achieve the right look!

ZPOST: The only place where a picture of a toy Z4 can segway to in-depth home painting technique.

i'm really digging your Warming print.
did you do it yourself? or was it done professionally?

on a side note... i put that pic through a filter that flipped the colors 180*. it looked pretty good with a black background, even with cyan tail lamps.

It's a print I received from BMW on my 1-year anniversary of owning the car. Then I framed it

Awesome. Just great!

This gives me ideas! I now have plans for our stairway alcove! It has a Chinese theme currently--red, gold, caligraphy--I'm going to keep the red but get put our various Z4 prints, cars, and etc. in their rightful place of honor.

Sean, yep, totally agree. It's a shrine. That's what I'm going for too.

Yes, Zpost, where a thread can meander off into drywall and painting techniques. One of the things I love about this place.

Now you're talking! I have an art alcove near the top of my stairs that could benefit from a similar treatment. it's currently housing a bonzai...

Totally thought I'd see garage pics... that was my only criteria when buying a house!

Regardless - very cool

My only critera of my next house is a 4.5 car garage. you know how dificult it is to locate an under 2000 sqft house with the 4+ car garage :-)

Found a house with an 8 car garage. It was out of my price range and was over 3000 sqft. Would have been nice.

Find one of these on Ebay.. pretty rare but they do turn up. Nicely framed they are a nice touch to any Z4MC shrine.
