Wow! That was fast, concept to production ready in 1 week.
Krnnerdboy - thank you for taking the initiative to contact APR!

Stupid question, but looking at the APR site, it says you need 3-4" of flat surface all around to mount the splitter. Obviously our cars don't have this. Will mounting below the fangs and the 2 support rods provide enough strength?

Also, the APR site says CF reinforced construction... what else is it made out of?
Just curious how much weight will be added.

It will more than likely be fiberglass, but the question needs to be asked to APR just in case.

How similar would the finished product be to the Varis CF lip? If similar, I am in.

the splitter is made of carbon fibre on top which is wrapped around a sturdy plastic on bottom. On the 350z it weighed no more than 5lbs with the hardware. not to mention it took alot of beatings from parking on top of curbs!! definitely a tough quality piece. it never cracked and in fact cracked the bumper mounts instead from a head on curbing.

the difference with this and the varis is mainly that the varis is made to only work with their front lip which is a AC knockoff. I actually prefer the stock fangs.

If they can make it have the little bits that stick up in the middle like in this pic that would be great.
Cant wait to see the final result

APR refused to do a mock up for me, and I'm not confident enough that my rendering of what a splitter should look like is what alot of M owners will have on their cars. Perhaps someone can do a template for us on black cardboard and post a pic? if it looks anything like the photoshopped lilherc M I'm in!

What about something like CSL splitters from the E46 M3? I dunno how it would look considering the fangs, but just another idea.

I think the most simple and effective design would be a "diffuser" type part that connects the two fangs. The mounting would occur through the fangs and into the diffuser. For added rigidity, perhaps 2 or 3 verticals connecting this diffuser to the bumper part in between the fangs.

Then, with the bumper now pretty much running flat across, you can affix a secondary diffuser.

I wish I was able to find a 3D rendering of the Z4 M's front end. I can only find non-M Z4's. I'd load it into a CAD-based program and draw something up...

EDIT: I managed to find some pretty detailed blueprints of the Z4M. I'm going to try my hand at creating a 3D render using Google's SketchUp. If I can get it squared away and implement a decent design, I'll post my results.

Well I think I am going to be the guinea pig for this one. I am going to be heading home on monday so I will try and mock something up out of cardboard and then send it off to APR to get it made. Before I send it off I will take some pics and post them and hopefully we can get a group buy going. He said we needed 5 people correct?

Well I am going to aim to try and fool around with this on tuesday... so check back in this on tuesday for pics. i have been looking at splitter pics all day when I should have been doing school work but I know have a really good idea of how I think it should look.
My biggest question is how thick they can make this splitter... i don't want something that is paper thin.

I actually found out about these custom made apr splitters about a year ago but I have been going back and forth about if I want to do it. I have an idea that involves a carbon splitter from apr and another piece that I will have to make on my own but I think it will be the better design for function

Is this just meant to be a straight splinter for functionality and no aesthetics?

I love the look of the vorsteiner m6 lip.
