ESS Tuning DME upgrade for M Coupe
Just got my DME computer back from ESS. Did the install and have driven the car twice.
My first impression was that the engine revved much "smoother" through the entire rpm range. It seems more "elastic". There is definitely more power, especially at low RPM. The power increase is not drastic, but it is clearly there. The thought I had was "wow, this is how the S54 should run!" I haven't tested my new 8200 RPM deadline, but like the fact that it's there. Also, the limiter is gone, but I'm not planning to test that out any time soon either. This is definitely a great mod. The car runs flawlessly. I'm glad I did it. |

The ESS tune is definitely worth it. I highly recommend it. For example, when I spent $2000+ on the exhaust, it looked and sounded better than stock, but any performance gains were more "butt dyno" psychology than real. On the other hand, for less than a grand, the DME tune will actually add very noticeable power and "refinement" to the S54. |

2. Fedex it to ESS 3. Wait it out Tuesday 4. Get your Fedex back on Wednesday 5. Reinstall it and drive your new car. It's really no big deal. |

It only voids the warranty if it causes a failure, and the only way for the dealer to know it's there is if you tell them.

Well I am sold on this! I have finally got the balls to do this.... I am going to have the secondary o2 sensors turned down and install a set of headers.

Watch out with the O2 sensors. I wanted to do the same thing and get a SS setup from the engine back, but my BMW Guru John Handal from European Motor Works advised against it. He said that you'll never get over the sensor problems. If you look on the Supersprint website, you'll notice it describes the headers as "off road or track" only. Basically, it's a matter of the performance gains not being worth the O2 sensor complications.
