We just got back from a weekend at the Dragon, we have been more than a few times with a few different car groups. Typically we do the Dragon, Hellbender, and Cherohala Skyway as well as the North GA roads on the way up like 60 and 180 (Wolf Pen Gap).

The M really was GREAT, even in the rain. Can't wait to go back with this group

Looks like you got a bit of experience under your tires. Any recommendations on a good meeting point? Also what would be a good time to meet up (alloowing adequate time for everyone to reach the meet point, yet leaving enough time to enjoy the drives)?

Any advice from anyone who's been there before would be appreciated. TIA.

For those of us in metro ATL wishing to caravan, I have typically met at the Chevron gas station at the end of 400, where it goes from 4 lanes to 2 lanes and turns into 19 and intersects with 60 (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...35405&t=h&om=1). Then we take 60 into Suches where we take 180 back up to 129, 129 through N. Ga and NC. From this point it is 2-2.5 hours to TOD where a good meeting point is the gas station at the corner of HWY 129 and HWY 28 (Dragon starting point). To run TOD/HWY 72/HWY 411/Cherohala loop is a couple of hours. Hwy 28 (Hellbender) and the Fontana Dam add maybe an hour to this time, the base of the Fontana Dam is a great backdrop for group photos:

J, the 26th being a holiday, the proud state of NC might have their finest out keeping the Dragon safe from ner-do-wells. Past chicken enforcement has cost folks that let their tires touch the center line near the less go over the center line, no speed tolerance, and vehicle code violations. Keep your eyes open to have fun, no since leaving your gold there! There was a big article on the net about it last year. Have a great time though.
