E46 M3 4:10 R&P for M coupe

good day everyone, I have tried to search but could not find any definite results. I am looking to purchase a 4:10 ring and pinion gear for my 06 M coupe. my question is will one for the E46 M3 fit? I have been looking at Turner Motorsports:

https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-2...m5/#tabReviews

but the site indicates it does not fit the Z4 M coupe. is there a Z4 M coupe specific part for the 4:10 ring and pinion gear set?

my other option will be to acquire an E46 M3 diff unit and swap the diff cover to install the ring and pinion set for my car?

thanks in advance for your knowledge regarding this.

There's a huge thread literally right below yours, talking about E46 M3 vs. E85/6 differentials and the differences between them.

tl;dr? They are probably the same internally. YMMV.

have read through that tread below. conclusions seem to be only that the M variable differentials were changed/updated at some time during production from the E46 M3 to the E86 Z4M. the pics provided in that tread also showed some differences internally to both differentials (post 13) http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=393888

would anyone know if the E46 4:10 ring and pinion from Turner motorsports install correctly to the Z4M differential?

thanks

so I have received a reply from Turner motorsports about the E46 4:10 ring and pinion set regarding fitment for the E86 Z4M.

Hi Jason,

The E46 M3 Ring and Pinion will not work with the Z4M, it is a different setup.

We do not sell the 4.10 for that model separately, but we do offer a fully rebuilt differential and can have it re-geared to a 4.10 final drive.

Here is a link to the full unit: https://www.turnermotorsport.com/Car...salesrep=ishea

If you have any questions, or would like to place the order over the phone, please contact me directly. The price includes the refundable $750 core charge.

Thank you,

Subject: RE: E46 4:10 ring and pinion gear for E86 Z4m

Good morning, I am inquiring about the: https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-2...m5/#tabReviews
I would like to know if this product will install correctly into my 2006 Z4 M coupe. Your website indicates it does not. Some internet searching seem to indicate it will fit? Can you please provide clarification regarding the fitment of the R&P into a Z4M?

If would you have a 4:10 ring gear available for the 2006 Z4M coupe?

Thanks

I believe the R&P set for E46M/E8xM is identical, don’t quote me on that though. In any case, this PN fits for sure

Give David Harrison a call at HarrisonMotorSports.com in Atlanta. They had one built for me a few years back and it definitely was, one of the best mods you can do for the Z4M.

They are the same.

TMS are really clueless sometimes, they customer service is becoming down right embarrassing.

Just get your stuff from diffsonline.com, I suspect all the other online retailers that offer upgraded differentials are basically resellers...

Unfortunately changing the ring and pinion is not a straightforward job and you will need to find a specialised workshop to do the install, mainly due to the shims required to ensure proper fit. You can decide to buy the whole set of shims but that doesn't make any economic sense.

Your best bet is to simply buy a rebuilt differential with your desired gearing, and do a straight swap.

I'm not so sure that was the best way for me.

I just ordered a set of new 4.10's this week and with the labor for the rebuild it will only set me back about $1,100

Good deal, by far this is one of the best mods you can do for this car.
