z4dawg... remove your ashtray (where you have your Aux connector). It will be tough, but try to feel on the left side (drivers side) and see if you have any cables coming up and going back along side the transmision.** I found mine where I have your picture marked (under the carpet).. Chuck I

Ok, do you mean flush against (but on the inside of course) where my right leg would rub against the center divider while I drive?

Additionally, what is the VM module?

I'm about to have dinner but I'll give it a go later tonight.

Do you know what the Vm unit does?

We don't know if the print posted is for your car.
There is another print that shows it without the VM module.
Goes directly to the DME.
DME connector X60004 pin 1. SW/RT/GE wire.
Think I got it now. Will do some pics. New print. DME connectors and how the tranny works.
With the pics you can see if the sport switch wire goes to X60004 pin 1.

Yes, right up where your leg rubs... I had to take a hook and pull the carpet up and reach back in there... It was a real pain in the butt... Chuck I

Sport mode print 2

See if the DME connectors match with your car compared to the pic.

Maybe the IVM is for the auto tranny cars.

I have drawn a couple of boxes and a line inside the small one. According to what Chuck I stated and his photos, the connector should be just to the left of the line under the carpet. If you can pull the carpet there, the connector may be under it. It is where I am going to look when I take off the cover that holds the shift boot in.

BINGO!!!!!!!! I removed the battery and then the cable from the DME.. The wire on pin 1 is the same as pin 5 on the sport button connector. I even used an ohm meter to make sure I had continuity... Thanks so much Ron! -- Chuck I

Probably easier to look at the DME X60004 pin 1 connector to see if the wire is there.

JRA.. Don't give up...

Hey... I was just looking... There are a couple of ways to check to see if you have the cable for the sport button... 1) Check to see if you have the IVM module (see Ron's #42 post). If you do, then open it up and check pin 20 of connector X60191. If it has a Blk/Red/yellow wire on it, then that cable is buried in there some place.... 2)If you don't have the IVM module, open the cover over your DME and check connector X60004 pin 1 for a Blk/Red/Yellow wire (see Ron's #50 post). Again, if that wire is there, the cable is buried in there someplace... Hope this helps... Chuck I

Chuck I,

thanks, I'm going to need a little help here. I dont have the IVM module. So I'm looking for a single wire in the X60004 location that is black, red, yellow?

Yes, that's correct. Take the cover off (4 or 5 allen screws), then you will see the x60004 plug... it's the second plug from the left... you have to remove the plug to the left of it to get it out. Turn it over and you will be able to see which pin is number 1... see Ron's drawing of the plug... The wire is black and red with a little yellow on it.... I'm getting ready to take a 4 hour trip so I won't be back on line until late tonight. I'll check back to see how you're doing... Chuck I

Chuck I,
I've got nothing in the #1 slot. I guess it is one more push towards buying another Z4. I'm curious to see if any other members have this pre wired. Again, thanks for all of your help. It is members like you and Ron Stygar that make forums like this such a great place.

JRA, Well, sorry it's not there. To me, since my car is so early (12/2002) they may just had one main wiring harness at the time. It's really a lot of fun when you can make some of these things work.. and I always learn something.. So many folks have helped me over the years, so I certainly don't mind helping when I can.. Thanks for the kind comments.. Chuck I

I know that on my M, the Sport button make a difference so I'm hoping I'll be able to tell the difference here. There's another issue, your connector may not be there. As you can read above, JRA's car didn't have it... My car is a very early unit built in 12/2002. I lucked out. My suggestion would be that before anyone buys the switch that they check to see if the connector is there. You can get the switch for less than $80, probably cheaper if you shop around... Chuck I
thanks for the info. hope this works.
