Smile Intake charcoal filter removal vs. modify typhoon intake

I'm going to install a k&n drop in filter, and at the same time removing the charcoal filter, wondering does that makes the same performance as those aFe stage one intake or the k&n ???

I'm not sure if aftermarket intakes have officially been dyno-proven by anyone outside of the respective companies that sell them?
I only put in a drop-in filter because I had heard that aftermarket intakes actually don't gain anything, and in some cases actually lose a little bit of power. That all they're good for is better (suction) sound.

I could be wrong, but that's the impression I got when I did a tiny bit of research here on the forums regarding aftermarket intake modification options.
