UUC/Rogue Engineering transmission mounts help, as does the ZHP shifter.

I put in my UUC "black" tranny mounts recently but there's a vibrational issue that I'm feeling throughout the rev-range whether I'm in gear or not. I was informed that I might've overtightened them, but I tried re-installing them today and made sure everything was only hand-tight, but I still feel some vibration. It's weird.

^^^ Just ordered those as well. Hope someone chimes in, because vibrational issues aren't what we signed up for. How's the shifting though? (before/after)

Shifting seems to have improved yeah. I was pretty skeptical at first and thought it was just due to the fact that perhaps I got lucky with the shifts after the install. But even when I wasn't trying to shift smoothly/correctly into 2nd, I found that it was less notchy than stock. But the vibration is annoying imho. I'm starting to think that maybe it was already there before..and that I just never paid close enough attention. But iono. It sucks how these things can play tricks on your mind lol
If only we could switch back and forth between aftermarket and stock components at the touch of a button

I had the same problem as you and here's how I corrected my install. (see posts 7 and 9)

http://www.zpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7979028

The key was removing the jack supporting the transmission after mounting the bracket but before installing the nuts on the actual mounts. I also went for an easy drive around the block, which further allowed the transmissions to settle to its natural resting state. Simply loosening the nuts and retightening them won't do anything (I tried that initially).

Thanks for that. Yeah, I think the only thing I did different than you was the drive-around prior to tightening the top nuts. Since I didn't have the star tool to take off the mid-section exhaust piping, I only had the option of tightening the bushing to the tranny mount itself before putting the mount bracket up to it and tightening the bracket ends before dropping the tranny for the final two bushing nuts on the bottom. I also noticed slightly less vibration, but as you stated in that post, it's still noticeable.

Define sloppiness more clearly. I don't find the transmission sloppy, but the shift selector and carrier bushings could be a little stiffer.

I guess the proper word should be "crunchy" rather than "sloppy" =P
In between shifts isn't bad at all, but getting into each gate is too crunchy/notchy imho, especially 1st and 2nd gear which are used the most.

I like notchy transmissions, hate transmission that just go into gear, makes me think ok its there, but is it actually in?

I don't prefer the crunch though in the Z4M. I like precise with a bit of a thud, but not captain crunch cereal

I'd say go with the UUC black mounts, Royal Purple Synchromax fluid, and AutoSolutions SSK.
Just got back from track day with the black mounts with stock tranny fluid and stock shifter. Am already decently satisfied. Can't wait for the AS SSK and tranny fluid when I'm out of warranty

I just had the rogue engineering mounts installed today. I also have the UUC ssk and rk5 knob and am having royal purple swapped in next week. I have to say, of the three modifications, the rogue transmission mounts did the most to "clean up" the sloppy unpredictable feeling you are talking about. I have not noticed any increased vibrations in the cabin.
When the mechanic first put the car up on the lift and examined the stock tranny mounts he said they looked like brand new and thought it was unnecessary to change them. I insisted and when he took off the stock mounts their consistency was noticeably more rubbery than that of the rogue version. I can only assume that the result is greater stabilization of the tranny etc...

+1. Rogue mounts were a great mod. Some slight changes in sound going into reverse, but what it should sound like on a performance car. Other than that no NVH to worry about and I haven't been denied a shift from 3rd to 2nd (unlike how things were stock). My shop highly recommends this swap (I bought directly from Rogue and they gave me the thumbs up when I brought it in for install).

I must have done something horribly wrong when I put in my RE mounts cause they made things so much worse than stock, I had to take them out a week later and put the stock mounts back in. Just a couple of weeks ago I replaced my tranny fluid with RP Syncromax and that did help things tremendously but that could just be that my original fluid was 65k old!

I have the UUC red ones and I don't have any vibration, and it's a great improvement over stock.

^^^ Well if you don't have vibration, then it would appear that any vibration in the black UUC/RE units are an install issue; because the reds are that much more firm should translate even more through the system.

I had installed by a shop since I had problems with bad install before, not using the proper pressure on it will cause vibration and premature failure.
