Winter Wheel Setup
Hey guys,
For those of you that have to deal with winter and your Z's, what setup do you guys use? i just picked up 4 18x8 OZ Superleggeras. Was planning on wrappign them in winter dunlop M3s and put 10 or 20 mm spacers in the rear

I have a set of cheap 17" wheels from tire rack that I purchased for my e46 M3 that I plan to use on my Z4MR. Believe they are 17x8F and 17x9R. Can't recall exact offsets but probably very similar to stock. Have Dunlop Winter Sport M3's on them and have been impressed with their performance in the snow.

As long as they fit on the car, you won't have issues in terms of driving.
You actually want narrower wheels in the winter. If you had 8.5's up front and 10's in the back, you'd be floating over the snow, rather then cutting through it.

I've been running 225/45/17 Dunlop runflat M3 winter sports on 17" M3 replica rims for the last two winters. They work like a charm. The car still slides a bit on turns when there's a layer of snow on the ground (mostly because of RWD and 'cause the car is really light), but otherwise, I feel quite safe in my Zed.
I can't wait to put my 18" M6 replicas back on though. The difference is just huge in terms of looks. When I put the 17" winters on, they look tiny. |

Regretfully I followed the advice in the MC manual which recommends 225/40R18. I put these on a set of stock rims I bought separately on EBAY. Vredestein Wintrac, good tires but the profile is too low for winter and the speedometer error is brutal now.
I should have put 225/45r18 instead and ignored BMW advice. |

I finally caved in after seeing the amazing pics of people's Zed's with the M6 reps (including yours!). The first week after getting them, I worried that they were a touch flashy....but after that, I realized that they just looked damn awesome!
saintex, with the amount of snow you get in Montreal and surrounding areas, I would highly recommend you ditch those tires and get yourself some Dunlop M3 Winter Sports. It's worth it safety-wise, and I don't mind driving non-RFTs in the summer, but I wouldn't want to get stranded in the dead of winter so I went with winter RFTs. |

This will be winter number two for the Z4MC. I've been running Vreds in the winter and summer versions for ten years and am quite satisfied and at any rate I don't think the M rims will hold a RFT, summer tires are not RFT and I have the stock tire repair compressor in the trunk. But thanks for your concern.
