2006 CPO Z4M Roadster price opinions...
I'm looking at a CPO 2006 Z4M Roadster in Interlagos Blue with only 15K miles. From what I can tell, the car comes with premium package and navigation. I believe I can talk the price down to $30K (from $35K list). Is this a good deal? Should I jump on it?
Thanks in advance... |

Seems kinda high to me too. Do a little searching on cars.com and other sites to compare. I paid $35 for my 2007 Z4M Coupe about 5 months ago and I think I could have gotten it at a lower price even though at the time my research showed this was a good price.

I think that the price is a little on the high side as well. I just got an 07 with 2k miles and every option for 31K. That said, as a guy who was recently in the market for one of these vehicles I was very surprised to find how many of these cars for sale had accident histories (even a few CPO'd cars). Many of the lower priced lower miles cars have accidents on their history reports. So buyer beware.

I've heard car fax is a waste of time now. Is that so? Or are they reliable? Mine said it was clear, but I notice an odd line on the top of it that has me worried. The dealership says it doesn't show anything big happened, but who knows.

As with many things (medical imaging being another good example), if it sees something there then you can be fairly certain of it, but if it sees nothing, there's nothing certain about that. In short, it's interesting information, but it's nothing definitive.

Thanks for the responses guys. Note, that this is a CPO 1-owner car from the dealer. The prices you guys were quoting, is that for a certified or non-certified car?
Thanks... |

How were you able to see the accident histories? Just from carfax? |

I'm a big fan of autocheck. It is cheaper and seems to pick up more accidents than carfax.
My opinion is that if the history shows an accident then it happened. Just because a history is clear only proves an accident wasn't reported to insurance or the police. A clean history means a lot as far as resale is concerned. Also keep in mind that a 2006 cpo may have as much warranty left as an 07 with a late in service date non cpo. |

Personally, if I were shopping I wouldn't bother worrying if the car was CPO. Every Z4M on sale right now is still under factory warranty, which means that you can have the car certified anytime before the warranty is up, if you want. You can spend the money if you keep it, and you haven't blown the dough if you decide not to.

Which brings up a good question; can you get a dealer to un-CPO a car to knock the price down? I'm guessing they may have had to replace tires, parts, etc... but I could do without the extended warranty for the time being if they would un-CPO the car and give a better price. |

My local dealer in Minnesota has offered to remove the cpo for me in the past. Both times they offered to knock 1500 off the price we had previously negotiated.

Now this is interesting. What do dealers do to "remove" the CPO? If the car needed part replacements or other fixes in order to bring it up to CPO standards, do they undo the work? Or do they only knock off what they feel is the value of the extended warranty? If they don't undo anything that was needed to bring the car up to CPO spec, that would be great. Essentially, I'd have the peace of mind that the car is up to CPO standards but at a discounted price... Is this correct? |

With a clean, low mileage car I don't think dealers have to do much aside from purchase the warranty from BMW and I don't think they actually make the purchase until the car is sold. Thus they can "remove" the CPO at any time.
If I had to guess - and this is just a guess - dealers probably don't certify some cars on purpose - and those would be cars that would take too much work to bring up to CPO status - thus a sizable investment in $$ prior to selling the car. I would find it hard to believe that the dealer would remove parts from your car to reverse any work they did when you ask them to un-CPO a car. If you do have particular concerns about that you could always have them put in writing that they agree to not remove any parts from your car or something like that. |

I'm saying 35 is too much. Its difficult to talk dealers down on CPO vehicles but at that price you should be able to talk them down quite a bit, but I dont think they will chop $5k off the listing price

It's only an issue for coupes? I thought I had read this issue applied for both coupes and roadsters? And did you have to replace yours because they actually failed? Or did you just replace them as a preventative measure? |
