flashing clown nose....

in my last z4, i had my dealer program it to flash when the car was locked.
i was told that is was no longer something they could do on Z4s. well, i just noticed tonight that my 06 M flashes when locked...
do i have an alarm? does anyone elses 06 and up flash once locked?
there is nothing in my paperwork that says it has an alarm.

I don't have the alarm on my 2007, and my clown nose flashes too. Maybe that's the default now?

The Z4 comes prewired for an alarm, but do not have it already installed (stupid decision by BMW to do this, IMHO). However, your clown nose is factory set to flash as if there was an alarm installed. It will start flashing about a minute after you've locked your car.

I ended up having the factory alarm installed shortly after I bought the car. It won't deter the professional thieves, but at least it will give you just a little piece of mind deterring the amateurs.

Yeah...it's normal. If it chirps you have the alarm...if it only flashes when you lock it, no alarm. However, I do think you can have it programmed to chirp w/o the alarm as well. Check the Z4 FAQ on bimmerfest.com

What dealer did you take it to?

Nope, you can only get a chirp with an alarm. I like the chirp but it was not worth buying an alarm to me.
