How does this engine sound?

Hi guys - thoughts on the engine noise in the two videos? Planning on doing Vanos upgrades (Dr. Vanos), not sure how immediate the need is. Car is at 72,xxx miles and runs great. Does this engine suffer from the "Vanos Rattle"? Anything else your tuned ears are picking up that is unusual?

Thanks!

Sounds fine to me from that position. I believed the "Vanos Rattle" is more pronounced under load (in gear).

That's as normal sounding as a healthy S54 is, IMO.

Sounds perfectly normal and healthy, especially for that mileage! These engines have solid lifters and you will hear a bit more valvetrain noise than you do with other modern engines.

The S54 have solid lifters and that makes them noisier than an engine with hydraulic lifters, nothing wrong with your engine. The S38 in my E34 M5 sounds quite much at idle as well, that engine have solid lifters also.

Edit: KPop beat me to it.
