BMW is now paying for pasanger airbag sensor reparis

The airbag sensor mat went bad on my 06 3.0si and I was told it was not covered by the prior recall which only covered to '05. Today I received a letter saying BMW will extend the part warranty to 15 yrs and pay for any prior repairs. Mine cost $1200.

Enter the last 7 of your vin at this link to see if you qualify: http://www.bmw-rp.com

Nice!

I received my notification letter from BMW NA today. It states that
...BMW is extending the limited warranty for the Supplemental Restraint System's (SRS) front passenger air bag seat occupancy sencor (OC3) mat on the above referenced vehicle to:

15 years without mileage limitation, as determined b your vehicle's original in-service date."

...

This is notice of a "limited warranty extension" only. This is not a Recall or Service Action.
Bolding is as in the original letter.

Based on the last bolded sentence, unless your SRS/Air Bag malfunction indicator is illuminated, I doubt that taking an affected car into your dealer would result in them actually doing anything, because, as stated, "This is not a notice of Recall or Service Action".

Apparently neither of mine are included. Really wish the ZHP was. I've replaced the mat twice in the last three years and the light is starting to come on intermittently gain. German quality! Woo!

Interesting as mine is an '06, but when I enter the VIN in the site it says my car doesn't qualify. I have contacted BMW Customer care as this makes no sense...

Will BMW pay/cover future repairs if you swapped your seat out from a car that was covered?

Curious- is your letter in reference to your Z4M? I called BMWUSA and spoke with them about this. I was told only the Z4 was covered, NOT the M Roadster. I don't understand this as all Z4's use the same seats(ie: M roadster seats are an option on the standard Z4's). Maybe this only covers the regular seats in Z4's but if you got a letter it would be for your M Roadster

I have my notice right here and it clearly has the VIN of my ///M in the first sentence.
It also says they will warranty it against breaking for 15 years, unlimited mileage.
Not that I can go in and get it swapped out as a precaution, as SD Z4MR correctly points out.

How do I know that it knows that my Son is sitting next to me?

Is it possible for you to scan your letter and post it? I want to be able to prove another person with an M Roadster received the letter.

BMW doesn't seem to be addressing this for its Canadian customers at all.

Mine is an 08 and the airbag light has just come on; go figure, my chassis is not covered.

I would call customer care right away. 1-800-831-1117 - The first thing the girl asked me was if my airbag light was on.

As an update, I contacted BMWUSA about the apparent discrepancy and was told the extra coverage is done on a VIN basis. I guess a particular run of 2006 cars are covered while others are not.

Mine is also a 2006 (03/06) M roadster and I received that same letter. I'm just not sure what sensor or issue they're referring to. I don't think I have it on my car.

It's in the passenger seat base to determine if somebody's sitting there.
The air bag will be disabled if there's no weight on the sensor.
I'm not clear on what the failure mode is.

I wonder on what basis BMW are choosing to contact owners ? The airbag lights on my 2006 3.0i have been on for the last 3 years. I put in the last 7 characters of my VIN (LW58316) but a response comes up not eligible ??

I suggest you call and make a record of the issue, with your current address.

Call the 800# I posted above and ask about it. That is the first thing I was asked when I called in.
