Z4 M Coupe Dyno

Dynoed the M Coupe last weekend, and was pretty happy with the results.

The Dyno was a Dyno Dynamics Dynamometer.

Mods:

- ESS Tune
- RPI Air scoop
- BMC Air Filter
- Carbon filter delete
- OEM M3 CSL Headers (no cats)
- Custom Catless Mid pipe with H pipe
- Stock x pipe
- Stock exhaust
- 4.10 Rear Differential
- 19" DPE SP16 wheels

The car put down 297 RWHP at 7800 RPM and 268 RWTQ at 4800 RPM

There is a carbon filter in the stock air box on North America versions. I'm not 100 percent sure why it's there in addition to the air filter. I took it out many moons ago with no ill effects.

It's emissions related.
There are several old threads on this topic, I don't recall all the details though.
But there really isn't much if any performance impact to having it there.,

Okay, so after some more research, it looks like my car might have had a tune after all. Seems like the A/F ratio was a bit too smooth for it not to be? dunno. plus, 297 HP is quite high. The previous owner had a ESS tune, but i thought he took it off before selling it.

I went to TTFS for a tune, and Frank was able to squeeze out a few more horses, and smooth out that power curve. The effects were immediate. In fact, i'm definitely losing traction at higher speeds in the upper rpm range. The power delivery is also much smoother. I feel like power just builds and builds all the way to the top without hitting any flat spots like before.

Results:

Before: 294.0 HP @ 7600 rpm /// 240.1 TQ @ 4950 rpm
After: 316 HP @ 7850 RPM /// 244.0 TQ @ 5000 rpm

Not too shabby!

Don't get excited
It's maybe 1HP max by removing it. It's on the top lid of the air box and is there to prevent engine smell when you turn off the car.

I assume this is Josh?

I'm Jay Park

I was at TTFS a couple of months ago. Did you already drop your car off? I can't wait to see the results.

Lol I know...

Yes, dropped it off Saturday. They told me two weeks, but I'm prepared for three.
