High pitched whine after tranny fluid swap

I recently swapped out the tranny fluid and put in Royal Purple Synchromax. Since then, I've noticed a high pitch whine that's tied to the throttle coming from the tranny. I was concerned about a possible leak or lack of fluid, but the seals are good (new drain plug) and the left over fluid jives with the tranny capacity. No codes. Performance is fine, shifting is fine.

Should this be expected or should I turn it over to a pro for a look?

Very strange, I experienced nothing like that at all.

Are you sure you put in the correct viscosity?

O-cha,
I had assumed so, since there is only one version of the Synchromax. The Synchromax equates to the MTFLT1, and I saw that the Z4M's use MTFLT2. That is roughly a 75W85 SAE Grade, so yeah, maybe its the viscosity. I read favorable reviews of Synchromax in the Z4M, perhaps I should try the Max-Gear 75W90.

Here is the specs.

While I don't disagree, people have been using this in the Z4M successfully. I'd be willing to put in Red Line MT-90 to see if there is a difference.

I'd have someone else look at it. I experienced a whining noise on acceleration in 3rd gear in my MINI after a clutch replacement, didn't make much of it, long story short, total transmission failure occurred whithin a week.

Whine is bad for sure, any way you look at it. It's a sign of friction and/or collision.

hmm, interesting anomaly. i opted not to switch to rp synchromax even though i had two bottles shipped from amazon because i'd been intentionally working on my shifting technique. plus i'm only sitting pretty on 17500 miles.

And the verdict is....

Power steering pump

It just happened after the fluid swap. Poor timing. I had noticed that the steering was rough, but attributed that to the increased negative camber from the TMS bolts.

Lesson learned. Only do one thing at a time when the car is up on the jack stands...

Glad to hear it's not a tranny swap!
