Dinan-like exhaust for z4M?
I don't believe Dinan made a rear exhaust section for the Z4 M roadster. Do any of the other aftermarket companies making exhausts for the Z4M have anything similar in tone and volume to a typical Dinan setup? I want something "sportier" sounding than stock...slightly louder, but not obnoxious.
Thanks |

Have never heard a Dinan exhaust (that I know of) for comparison's sake... but the Remus system is known for being slightly deeper under throttle, but about the same as stock at idle.

Thanks guys...from the threads I've read here, sounds like there isn't a lot to choose from: Eisenmann, Remus, RPI, Rogue Diablo, Supersprint or Magnaflow...Sounds like Eisenmann or Remus are the two at the top of the list.

Yeah, that's basically it for the Z4M.
RPI is definitely the loudest, and I'd say Remus is the quietest.

Is the Remus quieter than the Eisenmann sport? From the video I saw, the Remus seemed to be a deeper tone than the Eisenmann sport...but videos are tough

Remus pretty much just sounds like stock. Dont really know why any one would bother with a Remus.

I just ordered Stromung mufflers for my 2006 Z4M roadster, Sound clips on the web sound decent. They are not really loud but supposedly much deeper than stock. Also, a direct bolt on with no cutting. Cost is only $895.00 for the pair list price. Will let you know how they sound after I get them installed, hopefully Saturday.

Absolutely not. Supersprint is one of the most expensive brands out there. Expect to be paying around $2000 for the Powerloops. Worth it, yes, but certainly not a bargain.

Thanks...didn't realize they were that much. Geesh, that's almost as much as a high-quality Dinan setup for an e92 M3 (what I have)...
Any horsepower claim from either the Supersprints or the Stromungs? It can't be too much with just an axel back...I think I gained 5 or 6hp w/the Dinan mufflers...it was more for sound than anything else |

I don't understand that statement. Most exhausts will drone in a specific RPM range. If you're driving in that range you will get the 'drone' or 'resonance'. My BMS exhaust drones between 2k-3k rpm and that occurs in any gear. Obviously a specific speed on the highway in a particular gear would correspond to a unique RPM that could result in drone. Personally, I think theres just something particular about the Z4MC (roadster owners don't seem to complain as much) that make it susceptible to droning.

I think because of the enclosed nature of the coupe would make it resonate more inside the cabin.

Got the Stromung muffles mounted today. Perfect fit, very easy to do. I'm not a mechanic and it took about two hours because I went very slowly and had to crawl under the car with the rear wheels on ramps.
Initial impression of the sound is very good. Much deeper sound and not too loud. Pretty quiet when cruising until you get on the throttle. Cruising at 75-85 is not noisey and there is no drone. I got a discount because the ones I got were a special order that was never picked up. They are identical to the ones now available except these do not have the Stromung label engraved on the tips.

Wife has the Eisenmann sport on her Z4M. I love it, she loves it more. No drone (had a Gintani Race on my E92, so I know drone).
The ES is more "present" than the e9x Dinan at lower RPMs and a bit louder than the Dinan (but totally different sound I6 vs. V8). (Heard the Dinan on ///Metak's M3.) The ES for the Z4M is quieter than the Eisenmann Race for the E92, and again, no drone, just about perfect IMO. To me, and this is subjective, there's a hint of the sound the old air-cooled 911s made. Not the same, but it "evokes" that to me when I'm in the car. Totally livable on long drives and will not wear you out. If I could only find something like this for the E92 I'd be happy (think I need to do the surgery on the OEM muffler approach for my E92--just not enough "there there" and the options are limited).
